The Peat Inn in St Andrews, Scotland.

The Peat Inn in St Andrews, Scotland - ★ February 2013

It's my inter semester break, and my parents are down in St Andrews with my brother. We decided to have lunch at The Peat Inn which was only 10 minutes car drive away from St Andrews town itself. Because there's 5 of us, we have a great variety of food, choosing almost everything off the menu itself. Perks of eating with a big group.

Appetizers:
Canapies

Canapies - Olive in pastry

Sweet potato puree with parmesan cheese foam

Entrees:

Cauliflower veloute, scallop tartar and avruga caviar
In my opinion, this is the 2nd best starter. Everything about this dish is amazing.

Warm salad of bone marrow, garlic snails, winter chanterelles and parsley

This starter is a bit of a let down. Garlic snails didn't have much taste and didn't quite fancy the bone marrow.

Menu of the Day's starter - Cannelloni of hare and mushroom with quinoa, cobnuts and cepe veloute
This is the best starter out of all. Unfortunately it is a seasonal dish.

Ginger cured salmon, mouli, black sesame, coriander and pickled cucumber

Mains:
Seared hake, clams, creamed hispi cabbage, Jerusalem artichokes, crosnes and shellfish dressing

I, myself, order this dish. However, my clams wasn't washed well causing it to be so sandy. Had to return back to the kitchen and do up another portion for me. There's actually a huge difference between the first and the second fish. The first fish was very dry and it was a bit tough to eat, but the second is cooked just right. Overall, the seasoning of the fish was so beautifully done and was consistent. Also, because of the sandy clams, they were so nice and didn't charge me this dish at all.

Slow braised featherblade of beef, roast parsnips, young turnips and red wine sauce

Roast crown of wood pigeon, glazed apple, red cabbage, black pudding and sauce Bigarade
This would be the best entree among all.
Menu of the Day - Slow roast belly pork, chilli-apple puree, pak choi, crushed swede and braised radishes
Desserts:

Pave of dark Amedei chocolate with prune and Armagnac ice cream

Peanut butter parfait, banana and passion fruit sorbet and glazed banana

Menu of the Day - Warm pear and almond crumble, praline custard and pear sorbet

Petits Fours, which came with coffee

I didn't get to take any pictures of the ambience and surroundings, but it is like a little cottage-like restaurant. &Oh, there's completely no signal to any of the devices when you're in it. Service is very good actually. I feel all the dishes are decorated very sophisticatedly (in a good way), especially for the fish. Just slightly disappointed with the food, but overall it is an okay experience.
